The bright red juicy Australian Raspberry is edible & delicious. The berries are sweet with a mild raspberry flavor & can be enjoyed fresh or made into syrups, jams, pies, & more. The fruit is a bit larger than the ‘regular’ raspberries we are used to seeing here in the US & measure 1 – 3 cm (about 3/4 – 1 1/4″) in diameter.
Often referred to as a shrub, they are canes & can grow quickly to form dense thickets in suitable climates. They do take to pruning well if you wish to keep them more contained, or can even be grown in containers to prevent spread. The branches are thorned, but less so than most other types of raspberries. Their primary fruiting season is summer to fall, but they can produce year round in warmer climates.
